WIND FARM AVIATION IMPACTS
Wind farms are being constructed around the world to “harvest” the winds to provide a renewable energy source.
The ideal location for a wind farm is near to the electricity consumers i.e. as near urban areas as possible. This can be in conflict with the ideal location for airports
and other aviation facilities, particularly airport approaches and ATC radar coverage.
A preliminary aviation assessment should be carried out very early in a wind farm planning cycle to identify potential issues and
mitigation measures. LPS AVIA Consulting has carried out assessments for over 15 proposed wind farm projects and has worked with wind farm proponents in local planning board hearings.
