EDMONTON GENERAL AVIATION FACILITIES PLAN
The Edmonton Regional Airports Authority (ERAA) commissioned LPS AVIA Consulting to examine the Edmonton
International Airport’s current and future demand and capacity for its General Aviation (GA) infrastructure for the short, medium and long-term to the year 2025.
“General Aviation” refers to a very diverse mix of activities including corporate flying, small aircraft charter flights, flight training, air ambulances, prospecting,
banner towing, pipeline patrols and various other activities
Consultations were held with ERAA to determine future developments on and adjacent to the airport property.
Developments such as the new parallel runway (12L-30R), an expanded air terminal building, an apron, the Port Alberta concept and the relocation of Highway 19 were
considered as the main constraints in determining an area suitable for future General Aviation developments. Electronic and physical zoning constraints were also
examined in order to protect the integrity of aircraft operations at EIA. An extensive consultative process was undertaken in order to understand the daily operations
of the GA users and facility operators at EIA and the impact of future growth in demand on their facilities and activities.
